Hello, my name is Savannah and welcome to my blog! I'm so excited that you will be following me on my cooking journey as I endevour to cook, create, and bake 106 recipes using the Happy Cookbook by Steve and Kathy Doocy. "A Celebration of the Food That Makes America Smile."
A little about me and my cooking background... I am a certified line cook with a certificate in the hospitality industry. (I even have the "chef whites" to prove it!) 🙃 I achieved this certification in 2014 from Shasta College in Redding, CA and from there I tried pursuing in the restaurant business but to no avail. It is WAY too competetive for me. I enjoy taking my leisurely time but also with the goal of putting a meal on the table! I like to cook and I have always enjoyed baking as well, and I will always pursue this desire to be in the kitchen, especially now as I have a hard working boyfriend who deserves yummy homecooked meals and someday, I will have children to feed nutritious meals. My boyfriend's grandma gifted me this recipe book which I am so grateful for! So I wholeheartedly embrace this recipe challenge to better improve my skills in the kitchen! I am inspired by the movie, Julie & Julia, that portrays the true lives of these women who have a passion for cooking. (If you haven't seen the movie yet, I highly recommend watching it on Netflix sometime.) Soooo! Without further ado...let's begin! It's going to be exciting to actually go through a whole recipe book! How often does that happen!? After all, who even uses cook books any more? Personally, I own a recipe binder that I have a few hand written recipes that I'll look through on occasion. And then of course, there is Pinterest, but I hate having to touch the screen from time to time to keep the screen light on so I can read the recipe I was trying to follow. The struggle is real! ;) (You would think I would learn to write recipes down from my phone onto a piece of paper to refer back to!) Silly me!
A Moment of Truth though....
Reality is that it is going to take a lot of self discipline for me to follow through with this. For accountablility reasons, I have been posting regular pictures on social media, so my viewers can see all the progress I've made. I'd like to have cooked all 106 recipes by the end of this year, if not sooner! And then, who knows! By that time, I will have hopefully gotten my hands onto another recipe book to cook through!
I also am going to attempt to write my own recipes down and put together a cookbook someday! In the year 2020, I will be attempting this daunting task! Just a variety of recipes I've practiced and made along the way with exact measurements to easily follow.
